Job description:

The Zoo Education Manager is a newly created leadership role at Wild Hearts African Farm, designed for someone excited to build, shape, and grow educational programming from the ground up.

Wild Hearts African Farm is a nonprofit, Humane Certified™ Zoo and Accredited Arboretum that tells wildlife conservation stories through the unique perspective of an African farmer—highlighting the connection between people, land, livestock, and wildlife. Located on over 30 acres, Wild Hearts is home to 85+ animals representing 35 species, and serves as a living classroom for conservation, empathy, and environmental stewardship.

This role offers a rare opportunity to take ownership of Wild Hearts’ education efforts—expanding school partnerships, creating camps and learning experiences, educational encounters, and leading interns and volunteers while helping grow opportunities for both the zoo and the surrounding community.

This position is structured as an independent contractor (1099), on-site role. Educational programs, camps, encounters, intern support, and outreach are conducted in person at Wild Hearts African Farm and approved off-site locations. While the contractor has flexibility in managing their schedule, program commitments and farm needs must be met.

Former Wild Hearts interns are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements or new offerings
  • Represent Wild Hearts African Farm at outreach programs, community events, and educational partnerships
  • Maintain a consistent on-site presence to support programs, interns, volunteers, and animal ambassador experiences
  • Ensure all educational activities align with safety standards, animal welfare guidelines, and farm policies
